Thousands of motorists may be unaware that over the years, their vision has deteriorated to the point.
Where they’re breaking legal DVLA sight requirements.
And nobody wants to be responsible for an accident because their eyesight isn’t up to scratch.
That’s why, in Road Safety Week, you are being called on to Make the Brake Pledge by promising to focus on six key actions.
That could save your life – and the lives of others. You’re being urged to be Sharp, Slow, Sober, Secure, Silent and Sustainable.
Sharp
Because that’s what your vision should be and to make sure, you should have your eyes tested every two years. Go to specsavers.co.uk to book online.
Slow
Brake and Specsavers are calling on London road users – drivers, motorcyclists and cyclists – not to travel too fast for the road conditions.
Sober
Don’t drink and drive. Having even one drink before getting behind the wheel can afect your driving ability.
Secure
Drivers and passengers can remain secure by ensuring they always wear a seat belt. Brake figures show that.
Despite it being a legal requirement to wear a seat belt – up to 21 per cent of car occupants killed in crashes didn’t buckle up.
Silent
Because drivers who perform a secondary task, such as using a mobile phone while at the wheel, are three times more likely to crash than non-distracted drivers.
Sustainable
By minimising the amount we drive by walking, cycling or using public transport instead this reduces the potential for crashes.
